A new two and a half-storey private residence in Polo Club, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

design philosophy

This new private detached residence is situated at a suburb green residential area in Petaling Jaya 30 minutes away from the city of KL. The site is set within a private residence gated community with only views to the surrounding neighbourhood homes. The Client requested for a contemporary space to lead him and his family towards a contemporary living.

Minimalist approach is taken to this residence design which explores into inter-spatial relation. The facade is stripped off to the minimal with 2 oversized openings to maintain privacy and security yet allow the occupants to communicate with the surrounding environment. A central lily pond courtyard splits the building into two blocks, therefore floods the internal spaces with natural daylight and encourages the ‘inter-spatial relation’ communication to the occupants.

design statement

FORM do not necessary follow FUNCTION nor necessary FUNCTION to follow FORM, in designing this contemporary Malaysian home, the two co-exist in coherence and harmony. Inspired by Japanese contemporary architecture, this minimalist Malaysian home emphasises on inter-relationship between the spaces within the house, and also reflects the social issue of the current living environment in Malaysia.
